After Kim Baker's resignation effective June 29, the board discussed statutory requirements and options including appointing a past member, launching an application process, or deferring to the top non-incumbent vote-getter from the November election. Board members requested written legal guidance and agreed to continue the discussion at a work session.

Two members signaled interest in the chair role and the board split between continuity (keeping current chair during superintendent search/referral) and customary rotation. Members exchanged sharp remarks and asked colleagues to discuss nominations privately ahead of the January organizational vote.
