MIRRORMASK
In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

MIRRORMASK
Less for today‘s children, more for tomorrow‘s goths. That said, Mirrormask was made because films like Labyrinth never stop making money even if their initial release is disappointing, so I suspect the long tail on these things is very very long.

"Don't let them see you're afraid."
These sphinx eat knowledge -- eternally hungry. In this, they are not unlike me. They love riddles, which I may at times. Just something about their design really stuck with me. I love them. They are oddly endearing. Kind of like humans.

I didn't remember he had anything to do with Mirrormask, but I do remember Princess Mononoke though.

I think of "Coraline" as more of a Henry Selick work than Gaiman—which, if you haven't seen "Wendell & Wild," please, please do; if he and his workshop teamed up with GDT... *fans self*—just as I think of "Mirrormask" more as a Henson Workshop work than Gaiman (although, noticing a theme there...)~

One thing to keep in mind while watching this clip from MirrorMask in honor of its 21st anniversary:
This was produced by the Jim Henson Company. It was influenced by Labyrinth, and it definitely matched it in the nightmare fuel!
Thank you @musicalhell.bsky.social for informing me this existed!

I don't love the implication that growing up means accepting the role your parents forced upon you.

Wasn't expecting to get a well-transmuted side order of the Existence Consent Dilemma along with the Mirrormask issues but I wholeheartedly approve

Iain Ballamy has been a favorite of mine since I heard the soundtrack to the film "MirrorMask" back in high school. This album, "Riversphere", is so chill and relaxing. I love it. Hoping you all like it, too.

I met Sean via OKCupid circa 2005. We went to see Mirrormask at the Ken Cinema & agreed to be pals. And have been, 20+ years now.
Sean & Andrea were my first example of e-loves turned irl spouses who have endured & thrived. They're adorable.
Happy 10 years, y'all.❤️

Why was I so against Mirrormask? I watched it for the first time in 20 years and was amazed by it! The music, the animation, it's all so cool!
