This tribute to Old No. 1 shows what made Guy Clark so special. The Texan wrote plaintive songs that used quotidian details to express elegiac emotions.

”We don’t get to do as many shows as we used to, so every night out there means a little more,” Willie says.

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader. I found a new way to hate Spotify this morning. Woke up, went to the "Release Radar" playlist which appears on Fridays and saw the cover image was The Thrills who are one of my favourite bands of all time and who we reported a while back might have new material on the way.

Dillon Warnek has produced an album of rebellion, regret, broken promises and salvation wrapped in fatalism and dark humour. “As the Neighbors Tried to Sleep” begins with a real swagger. ‘Pistol and a List of Demands’ opens with great energy: piano and guitar with a pulsing beat lead the way in a romanticised tale of a renegade on the run.

Price reconnects with her roots to deliver a classic outlaw country album for the new millennium. It is now almost ten years since Margo Price released her breakthrough debut album "Midwest Farmer's Daughter". The album, inspired by her journey from childhood to Nashville, showcased an artist unafraid to double down on what she believed in and the music she loved, writing intelligent country songs from the heart, filled with passion, all built on three chords and the truth.

No one is illegal in stolen land. Goodnight y’all! 💙💙💙 @missmargoprice

Well that’s it from us for another week dear reader, and we leave you with a new track from Margo Price who revisits her earliest days in Nashville on ‘Losing Streak’, sleeping off a three-day party in the backseat of her ‘91 Ford Explorer, moving to town with a handful of half-finished songs, spending two weeks in the same clothes on the brink of a mental meltdown, lost and slipping low, and wondering why she left home and came down here at all.

Margo Price has teamed up with Jesse Welles to deliver another compelling, immediately likeable tune. Price dances along to the grooving rhythms, and 'Don't Wake Me Up' is sure to get you moving too. This is a stomping country rocker, in which Price spills a stream of ideas, a torrent of words, as she imagines herself in all sorts of different places, dreaming of being anywhere except the reality of where she finds herself.

Ahead of her upcoming release, "Hard Headed Woman", Margo Price took a pre-emptive victory lap in Europe last week and ushered in her new era of rhinestone-studded classic country. Heralded by her single, ‘Don’t Let The Bastards Get You Down’, a wonderful nod to the legendary Kris Kristofferson, Price has effectively turned her back on the clout-chasing industry goons and looked to the music scene's past for inspiration.

Margo Price has announced the release of new album "Hard Headed Woman",  described as "a hell-bent collection of country music that reconnects with her roots and further redefines what it means to be a modern outlaw", which lands on August 29th via Loma Vista, Recordings. The album, the press release notes, "captures Margo Price at her wisest, funniest, toughest and most vulnerable.

Inspiration this time is perhaps unsurprising. While pondering gloomy thoughts about America many songs come to mind but Margo Price’s “All American Made” persists. This title track of her second album that was released in 2017 paints a bleak picture of America both domestically and overseas. Its grim message fades into a babble of political soundbites but perhaps the end is not the demise of the American dream?
