also as well, making a mould and cast for a giant version of another perfume-bottle; a polished-up bit of modelboard turned into a 'glass' replica, ultimately a bit spoiled by the bubbles in the siliglas 'perfume' - surprising we didn't get far more overall what with no degassing equipment to hand.
a big chunk of blue modelboard, or chemiwood, made to the shape of a perfume-bottle, but approximately ten times larger. the same bit of modelboard/replica, now polished up ready for moulding and casting. the modelboard replica again, upended into the mould casing that will allow it to be reproduced as a 'glass' replica, though actually being cast in clear resin. the finished model, side-by-side with the original bottle and box for the perfume, showing the size difference between the two.

also *also* being fit into the scheme of things, sorting out some modelboard/chemiwood topographicals for a thing I did a test-piece for about a year or more ago that of course came up to be getting got on with within the same month:
one of several pieces of topographical/plan sections of certain bits of London, milled from pink modelboard, in the process of having all the tooling-marks sanded out of it from where the milling-machine has been. a closer view of one of the modelboard sections, showing some of the buildings being represented on the model,that still bear the rotational marks left by the tooling done by the milling-machine.

hoheck, 's been a while, again, but here I be: big dice have been a thing for the last week or two - namely, producing reduced-weight copies of a hefty nearly 1kg bit of machined modelboard; starting first though with getting the machine-marks off the examples that crashed thunderously onto my desk:
two large dice on a work-desk, approximately 90mm on a side, milled from blue model board. the two dice again, one of which has been sanded smooth of the marks left by the milling process. one of the smoothed blue dice presented on a weighing-scale, displaying the weight of the die at 907 grammes.

- got about three days into all this when it then transpired that there were actually *fourteen* different petal-shapes to deal with, not three; also, the deadline for the 20th Jan had been brought forward to the 9th, but could we have at least half of the order ready for delivery on the 7th? ...!
an even wider selection of flower-petal shapes, made from modelboard or chemiwood, being prepped for mounting onto metal plates, to go into the vaccuum-forming machines.

they'd actually had the skull CNC'd out of chemiwood/modelboard/whatever you wanna call it; it had several flaws due to the fact they'd simply made it from a 3D-visualised version of a 2D image (coulda made 'em one from scratch but they already had the thing, so) Weighed a ton (well, about 30 kilos)

also, serving a little more 'wheee!' than all that last lot, here's a quick build of a big doughnut:
the top half of a big doughnut (about 500mm across), milled from low-density modelboard. the bottom half of the doughnut, showing where channels and spaces have been cut in for a support and a logo-panel, also showing where holes have been drilled into the body of the thing to reduce the weight of it. the two halves set on a table, barely able to contain their excitement over being about to be sprayed. the two halves now languishing in the corner of the spray-room, waiting for their first coat of filler-primer to dry off.

- meanwhile, a bit of catchup on the usual juggling-of-stuff at the work lark; that map-thing, coming along:
a low-relief map of part of London, built from modelboard and acrylic sheet, the latter showing light blue from the plastic wrapping on it. more or less the same view of the model, but it has now been sprayed to look like bronze, although unfortunately it's hard to see it all that clearly from the photo. a lighting-test of the illumination-system built into the back of the model, mainly to check that the wiring is working right. The view of the model is otherwise shown from much the same angle again, though some parts of it have been removed to facilitate the lighting installation.

< big chunk of the corner of it; smaller repairs also needed to several parts of the rim of the thing but they were more a matter for filler:
the forming-pattern for a supermarket-checkout countertop, sitting in the belly of the beastly big machine that's used to create the vaccuum-forming of the thing; it's sitting on a scissor-lift table as it's pretty big and weighty, about four feet long and three across, and probably 60 kilos or so. the replaced and remodelled corner of the pattern, cut and carved from chemiwood/modelboard, sanded shaped and filled to fit in with the rest of the rim. other side of the mend, showing the size of the chunk I replaced - about 8 inches long, 3 inches tall, and 1 and a half inches thick; it's glued and screwed to the main model, and filled and sanded smooth to facilitate the forming. There's a DeWalt drill sitting just above the rim of the 'wall' that gives some idea of the size of things. a fuller shot of the whole structure to give an even better idea of the shape and size of it all.

in other works, a thing; no idea what it is, but it's been cnc'd out of a bit of chemiwood with a bit of 'detail' milled into the surface, which I've had to sort of continue onto the side-surfaces since the machines ain't quite clever enough to deal with that yet (cf. early Daleks vs stairs I guess)
a shape consisting of several other interlocking shapes, apparently randomly cut into a piece of modelboard. The top surface, just about visibly here, has a texture milled into it. a closer view of part of the shapes-shape, showing where I've started to create a texture on the vertical surfaces to follow on from that on the top faces of the object. the original view of this thing agin, more or less, only now all the detailing is done and I've given it a coat of white emulsion. - and the close-up view again, showing that side-detail more clearly now after it has also been coated in paint.

When I first joined a sim mfr co it was building the last of a modelboard/camera equipped tank sims.
Later built a couple of CGI & augmented motion equipped sims for NL.
Drivers often got sick in the latter.
When things are really close, sync’ing sensory inputs for humans is hard.
