Fire is 4 km west of only remaining currently open road out of La Ronge & north (Hwy 969 through Molanosa on east side of Montreal Lake). Wind is blowing at 30-50 km/hr the fire towards this road.

🎀 In honor of Caroline Burns, who disappeared on Jan. 2, 1973 at the age of 52. She was last seen leaving her home in Molanosa, an isolated community in Saskatchewan. Extensive searches at the time failed to turn up any leads. She deserved better. 🎀

Hwy 2 now open again, Hwy 969 thru Molanosa closed as fire moves eastward. However satellite view shows fires still active along Hwy 2 from Weyakwin north to Creighton highway corner.

Sucker River (400 pop 30 km north of La Ronge) being evacuated.
La Ronge tri-communities (8000 pop) & Stanley Mission (2000 pop) on standby alert.
La Ronge facing 3-pronged encirclement from 3 major fires ~25km away.
Only road out at moment is old gravel highway through Molanosa. Winds high.
Monday, June 2, 2025 10:05 a.m. The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency has advised us to issue a Mandatory General Evacuation Order for the community of Sucker River. We will make arrangements asap for buses, gas for vehicles and will work with RedCross on accommodations. JRMCC will be the meeting place for Sucker River. We are also advised to put the La Ronge Tri Community & Stanley Mission on standby notice as the Pisew Fire is 16 kms away from the La Ronge. The road will be compromised to Stanley Mission.
