Carl Reiner got into drama through the Works Progress Administration and directed Moliére’s “Le médecin malgré lui” during a French intensive in Georgetown when he was in the Army
I also think the closure of liberal arts schools and the constant attacks on wide-ranging humanist educations are part of a push against the masses being taught critical thinking.

Which sounds conspiratorial, but come on, this is getting real blatant.
Thinking about how many kids I went to the now-closing Simon’s Rock with-a weird school stressing critical thinking, love of knowledge, and liberal arts - *weren’t* rich. Brilliant people with scholarships.

Feels like the end of an era where you didn’t need independent wealth to study like that.

Tonight we got rush tickets to see Molière’s “The Imaginary Invalid” on Broadway with Bill Irwin as Argan. What a farce! It’s also rather amazing how much this 350 year-old play resonates today.

This reminds me of Moliere's The Miser, where Harpagon puts a cork in his ass at night so he doesn't lose any farts while he sleeps.
I did a thread about this last year but I am struck again by the parallel between Trump’s pathologically negative view of exercise and of spending. In both cases, he hews to a zero-sum idea of expenditure—of energy or money—as loss.
Well, that took longer than I thought, but he hath spoken:

Molière’s The Imaginary Invalid may be more than 350 years old, but for director Brandon J. Dirden and adapter and star Bill Irwin, there is nothing dusty about it. Read more about the new production here: bway.world/nwlrf

From Molière's 1673 play Le Perroquet stochastique ("The Randomizing Parrot"): "I am asked by the learned doctor the cause and reason why the machine predicts the next token. To which I reply: because there is in it a token-predicting virtue [property], whose nature is to correctly predict tokens."
You've entered definition-land, @hikikomorphism.bsky.social. Nothing new is ever learned in definition-land, and nothing unexpected can happen. It's impossible — by definition. Anything that happened would just be an event, and we've seen events before.
