I'm surprised it took us so long to write about Jujutsu Kaisen for #MondayInspo. This series starts with the protagonist eating the finger of the "King of Curses", awarding him with amazing power... at a terrible price.
A Jujutsu Kaisen manga page depicting the climactic clash between Jogo and Sukuna — two fire-users at full power, one condensing cursed energy into a fireball while the other forms a flame arrow, atop the smouldering remains of Maximum: Meteor. A Jujutsu Kaisen manga panel introducing Mahoraga — the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General — a towering, many-ringed creature looming over howling wolf shikigami.

The creature designs of Remnant: From the Ashes captured my imagination for a long time. Even before I started working on #GodfleshRPG, I used those designs when describing monsters in my games. There is something otherworldly in using insects for inspiration.

A concept art sheet for the Quill Witch from Remnant: From the Ashes, showing insect photo references alongside the base model, a toxic variation, and front and back views of the final glowing, multi-winged creature design. A concept art sheet for the Bog Hound Blademaw from Remnant: From the Ashes, tracing its evolution from an initial sketch and base bog hound to the final front and back views of a hulking, blade-covered beast with glowing yellow markings. An ideation sheet for the Toxic Maiden Swamp Bug from Remnant: From the Ashes, showing four design variations exploring different degrees of tumorous distortion, asymmetry, and insect-like anatomy built on top of the base model.

I'm a day late for #MondayInspo, but Diablo IV Lord of Hatred launched today, and it gives me a new spotlight opportunity.

I love Diablo IV's environment design, because it's both fantastic, real, gritty and dirty. The mythical -- demonic, angelic, spiritual -- has a tangible impact on the world.
Environment art from Diablo IV by Kris Yu, showing a clifftop shrine overlooking a bright turquoise sea, with ruined structures scattered across the sun-baked rocky coastline below. Dungeon environment art from Diablo IV by Sean Napolitano, showing a top-down view of a dark, overgrown Skovos tomb with a circular mosaic floor, crumbling columns, and a golden statue in an alcove above. Environment art from Diablo IV by Kris Yu, showing the rain-drenched interior of the Atanos Saltwind Stronghold, with a massive demonic creature looming over a circular arena lit by flickering torches. Exterior environment art from Diablo IV by Brendon Kibler, showing a hellish archway entrance to the Cosmic Archives surrounded by writhing demonic figures, bathed in a deep crimson haze.

Monster Hunter World was my entry point into the series – and it hooked me immediately. From the creature design, to the varied ecosystem, and of course – collecting monster parts for crafting weapons and armour, it was a strong inspiration for #GodfleshRPG.

The armour forging screen in Monster Hunter World showing the Girros β set selected, with its full defence stats, elemental resistances, and skills displayed alongside a character wearing ornate dark armour. The weapon tree screen in Monster Hunter showing branching upgrade paths alongside the stats and required monster materials for the G. Exultant Bedivere hammer. The Wildspire Waste zone map in Monster Hunter World, densely marked with resource nodes and monster locations, with a Parashroom tooltip open and a delivery quest tracker on the right. A gameplay screenshot from Monster Hunter World of a hunter tracking an Anjanath in a lush jungle environment, with the massive predator rearing up aggressively in the background.

Studying and understanding a threat is a strong theme that we are trying to integrate into #GodfleshRPG. A good example is the bestiary in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the lists a creature's vulnerabilities alongside lore and other information.

The Witcher 3 in-game bestiary screen showing the "Fiends" entry — a hulking, antlered monster with a fanged multi-headed maw — alongside its lore description and combat vulnerabilities. Claymore was one of the first times I read a manage series, after the anime left me wanting more. It had a huge influence on my creative style, with it's body horror, transformations, and intricate plot.

A black-and-white manga panel from Claymore depicting a lion-maned warrior clashing blades with a winged, multi-armed demon, as an enormous lion watches and exclaims "Magnificent!" A full-page manga panel from Claymore showing a massive, grotesque winged creature looming against a stormy sky, its sheer scale dwarfing everything around it. A Claymore manga panel showing a hollow-eyed awakened being lamenting her hunger, alongside a full-body view of her terrifying winged demon form floating in the sky. A Claymore manga panel depicting a centaur-like awakened being, its upper body bristling with an enormous fan of razor-sharp blade appendages.

One of *the most* inspirational work on #GodfleshRPG was Tyranny. From the Bronze-age inspired fantasy setting to the colourful and fearsome characters to the concepts of Edicts enacted by divine forces.

#MondayInspo Source: "Tyranny Art Book" by Obsidian and Paradox Interactive.
A costume design sheet from the Tyranny art book showing how clothing progresses from the drab, simple garments of villagers to the richly coloured and layered attire of merchants and nobles. A weapons and armour reference sheet from the Tyranny art book, displaying dozens of items ranging from plain bronze-age blades and shields to elaborately enchanted staves and axes glowing with magical energy. An armour concept art page from the Tyranny art book, showing three designs ranging from a bronze-and-teal light suit to heavy iron plate, reflecting the game's Bronze Age setting. An environment design page for the Oldwalls from the Tyranny art book, pairing architectural sketches and layout diagrams with dark, green-lit in-game screenshots of the ancient, maze-like interior.

The works of Hayao Miyazaki were always a big inspiration, especially Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Princess Mononoke -- which their creature design, eerie environments and themes of people vs nature. #MondayInspo
The Night Walker from Princess Mononoke – a towering, bioluminescent deer-like spirit glowing in teal and blue against a twilight sky. A corrupted forest god from Princess Mononoke – a massive, dark creature writhing with curse-worms and glowing red eyes, crawling across a sunlit green hillside. Nausicaä navigating the eerie blue depths of the toxic jungle, dwarfed by a looming fungal creature and a giant Ohmu eye floating above her. Nausicaä standing alone deep in the toxic jungle, tiny against towering teal fungi, cradling a small creature while her fox-squirrel hovers above her on dragonfly wings.

When my OG group made their characters, back when the game was just a concept, one player said, "That's how I imagine their clothes. A modern interpretation of Greek antiquity".

That stuck with me from that moment on #MondayInspo

New segment, #MondayInspo!
We want to share art and media that spark our imagination when writing and playing #GodfleshRPG.

This week, Aviv is watching Resident Evil Village -- and discovered Murated Moreau. It's an awesome boss fight and amazing design.

"Mutated Moreau Concept Art " by Capcom.
Concept art of Mutated Moreau from Resident Evil Village, depicting a grotesque creature with a bulbous body covered in eye-like growths, pale writhing tentacles emerging from its head, and organic membranous appendages, set against a dark misty forest backdrop.
