#Montiagh
Photos from #Montiagh, 9 km NE of #Galway city on floodplain of Clare river. Whooper swans making the most of the bright sunny day. A sight to behold. Occasional pairs of mute swans must be wondering what all the 'whooping' was about.

Lots of other #wildfowl too, including lapwing, snipe, duck (mallard; possibly green-winged teal cf. Merlin app). #Wetlands are really special, especially at this time of year; havens for #wildlife especially our feathered friends!

Late last evening on the east L. #Corrib basin, north of Clare river (Montiagh North). Extensive wetlands & winter home to Whooper swan, curlew, lapwing. Fortunately, these survived major arterial drainage of late 50s the spoil of which look like interrupted dykes marking out the course of the river
