#MosiacMonday ‘House of the Stone Carpets’ in Ravenna discovered under a church in 1993/4: mosaic floors 1-6th C. Very early daisy shape floor found under later but still early floors. Highly recommended to visit.

For #MosiacMonday here is a photo, taken during my recent holiday to England, of the two phases of mosaic at Fishbourne Roman Palace. Sorry, I did not include a scale this time. 😉

Today's #MosiacMonday comes from Chichester - this tiny fragment of Roman mosaic probably belonged to one of ancient Noviomagus Reginorum's grand public buildings, but can now be found under the floor of the city's medieval cathedral.

Decorative mosiac column from the Temple of Ninhursag at Tell Al-'Ubaid, Iraq. Originally made of palm wood, coated with bitumen. Inlays of mother-of-pearl, pink limestone, and black shale were held in place by twisted copper wires. Dated to c. 2500 BCE.
