#Mossadegh

Americans don't know the reasons Iran hates the US. In 1951 Iran's democracy elected Mohammed Mossadegh. The CIA & British intelligence staged a coup, installed a dictator who tortured and killed people.

It goes on from there.

I spend a lot of time these days wishing the Democrats were as liberal as Ike was.

"There is no better way to govern Iran than democracy and social justice!"

A statement associated with Iranian leader Dr Muhammad Mossadegh.
His words remain just as true today.

Dr Mossadegh was a great leader, overthrown by a British-American coup, orchestrated for the sake of oil!

For shame!

There’s a pretty robust case to make that the Iran Hostage crisis of 1979, the revolution itself, and the policies of the Iranian government towards the US
since, was all blowback from the CIA’s decision to overthrow Mossadegh in 1953. www.cnn.com/2013/08/19/p...

And we wonder why Iran hates & distrusts us?

On this day in 1953 Democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran Mohammad Mossadegh was overthrown in a coup orchestrated by the United Kingdom & the United States...

Roots of the current crisis:

Iran, 1953.

CIA fomented a coup against Mohammed Mossadegh, the legitimately elected President.

Mossadegh’s “crime”?

Nationalizing the foreign owned oil companies that were pumping Iranian oil.

If you know no history, everything is a mystery.

Man when Trump falls we're gonna need to implement the kind of free trade regime that makes Bill Clinton look like Mohammad Mossadegh

It's gonna be like Mohammed Mossadegh it's not even funny

Mohammed Mossadegh when viewed on his own terms: "Eh, ok. He's a run-of-the-mill prime minister in a semi-authoritarian context who did some reforms, but was pretty bad at politics."

this was, basically, the driver of the Anglo-American coup against Mossadegh in Iran in 1952. The president didn't just tweet it out though.
Trump on Venezuela: "Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had -- they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching. But they're not gonna do that. We want it back. They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They threw our companies out. And we want it back."

I love this photo of Mossadegh in Philly at the Liberty Bell because I like to imagine there’s a bunch of drunken Eagles fans cheering him on in the background

It’s 1953. Iran looked like any Western country
Rock’n’roll, open universities.
They elect a secular socialist: Mossadegh.
He nationalizes oil. That pisses off BP.
CIA & MI6 stage a coup
Mossadegh overthrown
They install the Shah, a brutal US-backed dictator.
Secret police. Torture chambers. etc.

we slid into the Stupid Timeline when they couped mossadegh

I'm old enough to have learned that CIA backed removal of democratically elected Iranian President Mossadegh bc that's what Oil Co's wanted, and we installed Shah who controlled population through vicious secret police (savak) also w/ CIA/Mossad.
US' has been problem for sovereign Iran for >73 years
