This is the first time during #MothWatch2018 that I’ve found them soon enough after emergence that their wings are still soft! They look like beautiful, delicate cloth draped down!

#MothWatch2018 has slowed down a lot, but this Polyphemus emerged today. Check out the transparent windows in her wings and her cute little face!

Exciting update from last night for #MothWatch2018 - a male Cecropia showed up to see the female! He may have smelled her pheromones from a mile away.

#MothWatch2018 update from last night: two Luna moths did not manage to attract any mates on their second night out. They were released early this morning. Good luck ladies!

Last night’s first trial was some Luna Moths (Actias luna). The two females did not manage to attract any suitors. I’ll try again tonight and then release them either way. #MothWatch2018

The males are attracted by pheromones the females release, and come check them out. They can come from surprisingly long distances! #MothWatch2018

Someone awesome has gifted me with a bunch of cocoons of large moths to rear and release! I will be keeping the females overnight in a mating cage to see if there are males of the same species in the area. Follow along at #MothWatch2018
