I am still reeling Rachel Morrison didn’t win for MUDBOUND
Embarrassing that it has taken this long for a woman to win an Oscar for cinematography but I’m very happy to be here to witness it for Autumn Durald Arkapaw, especially with that speech which was the best of the night so far.

watching Sinners has made me want to rewatch Idlewild (2006), Mudbound (2017), and Ganja & Hess (1973)...which is unusual as a non-rewatcher.

Interesting observation. Can anybody think of counter-examples? One of my favorite films is "Mudbound," set at least partly in the 30s, but it's a modern film focusing on Jim Crow.
An aside on this, which as an immigrant to the US I hardly noticed until a few years ago, is that there are virtually no films or TV shows set in the US South between 1875 and 1930. A dog that doesn’t bark in the night.
