i continue to be floored by the state of modern SMB1 romhacks

Celeste Mario’s Zap & Dash is, as its name implies, a heavily Celeste-inspired adventure, and the fact that they managed to cram multidirection scrolling, SRAM saving, a map screen, tutorials, etc. on top of the added mechanics is absurd

I'm leaving out a lot. I'm also doing a quantize color and kuwahara on the original base color, blending those together, then blending that on top of these color cells. then afterward I'm doing a multidirection warp with a brushy height. even more unsaid stuff beyond that, but it's the basics.

Compilations that shaped my music taste, the acid jazz era : ‘91-‘94. I had a slight obsession with Acid Jazz & Talkin Loud at this time, as did most other record labels as they rushed to sign similar acts or licence tracks for their own comps.

New shmup release on #steam this week. Horizontal shooter, with a touch of Rolling Gunner with the multidirection shooting. Chunky pixel graphics and a banging soundtrack. Works well on #steamdeck just scale the window from default to 2x for fullscreen #shmup store.steampowered.com/app/2976800/...

I like to think of it as a literal spark that is sustained by a set of multidirection prongs, maybe with some semi solid characteristics in that it can bend and be tugged around by a conductor (the prongs follow it by changing directions)

I still get a bit lightheaded thinking about the multidirection dash they showed in the evolved preview for it

The changes in artwork/threads between their two Blue Note LPs—Introducing (1968) and Multidirection (1969)—are not unlike the changes from Miles' suit-and-tie Second Great Quintet of '67 to the Last/Lost Quintet of '68/'69. But Cox's LPs seemed tailor-made for those already nostalgic for Nefertiti.

Very cool. Titles: Thad Jones: Detroit-NY Junction (1956), Donald Byrd: Electric Byrd (1970), Elvin Jones: Genesis (1971), Kenny Cox & the Contemporary Jazz Quintet: Multidirection (1969), and Grant Green: Live at Club Mozambique (1971). (I toured the pressing plant in 2019.)
