#MultiPlexes
I thought Obsession was entertaining enough but it's nice how many people are seeing and enjoying Ken Russell's The Devils at their local multiplexes now. Kids had their fun etc etc

There are multiplexes with less projection.

The underrated sci-fi actioner ‘The One’ starring Jet Li, Jason Statham, Carla Gugino, and Delroy Lindo fought its way across the multiverse and into multiplexes twenty-five years ago this week (Nov 2001) 👊🏼 👥 ⚡️ #OTD

You'd think a free-enterprise party would want to open up more options for small builders and increase competition in the sector. You'd think they'd want to allow property owners more choice to use their properties to build multiplexes & small apartments. But we seem to live in the dumbest timeline.

A major update on combinatorial scaling of proteomics throughput using time-encoded multiplexing.

Mass spec proteomics has long multiplexed samples in the mass domain (using mass tags). timePlex multiplexes in the time domain, setting a new direction with new possibilities.

Aaaa il passe que dans des multiplexes et dans un ciné indé LOIN aaaaa

Provincial policy aside, Vancouver's new progressive council has the opportunity to help fix all this.

We could have townhomes, multiplexes and small apartments for families on leafy streets across every neighbourhood.

We literally just have to stop blocking them. bcpolicy.ca/2026/10/07/b...
BC’s big cities must do better to fix the housing crisis
As municipal and provincial elections approach, BC’s biggest, most expensive cities should face scrutiny for their role in the ongoing housing crisis.

Zoning as a right for multiplexes of up to 16 units within any existing community.

Zoning as a right for co-housing structures containing up to 16 bedroom units within any existing community.
What's your most ridiculous, newly emboldened political demand?

(Absurd answers only.)

Don't let that recent #LastFourWatched entry fool you. Multiplexes are filled with movies worth checking out right now. Add Wicker, Your Mother..., Klara and the Sun, and The Incomer to your Watchlists. All 4 star bangers!

‘Wild Horse Nine’ booked in for next week - matinee, of course. Northern Light Cinema in Stretford - great to see these smaller cinemas popping up, not a fan of multiplexes.

I do not like this trend of conservative premiers going full NIMBY, I must say

Lorne Doerkson says he will get rid of municipal housing targets and legislation allowing multiplexes to be built without rezoning.

Ah yes, another case of people using a photo of half-built multiplexes to show how bad of an idea SSMUH is! Use a photo of a completed triplex you cowards
Why does this party not want my family to have a home? Ridiculous

@moreneighboursto.bsky.social has some background on that in Toronto. A Ratepayers association literally told the city in a consultation that “allowing multiplexes in Neighbourhoods is just a handout to millennials who didn’t work hard enough to live there”
October 31, 2026 at 11:08 PM
Well you know, if we're going back from multiplexes everywhere to townhouses only on arterials, you probably want those triple-pane windows!
October 30, 2026 at 4:27 AM
In Edmonton it’s more “don’t let neighbourhoods like Glenora and Crestwood change, build all those multiplexes in the urban core”
October 31, 2026 at 7:31 AM
Shifting demographics is entirely why home owners have been NIMBYs opposing infill multiplexes for over 1/2 a century.
Driver / non-driver has been huge divide in Toronto politics but house owner & flat-dweller is becoming bigger maybe as more people live in apts. Shifting power base.
Amber Morley also won some polls along Bloor by 4:1. The homeowners in the Kingsway are loud, but they are outnumbered by residents in apartments along Bloor that support Morley and rely on the Bloor bike lanes and transit to get around.

Trevor Schmidt is IMO a piece of fucking shit.

When we eat the rich, do not forget Trevor's words.

OH and counterpoint, my clients are all hard working people looking to invest.

They'd prefer to invest in real estate. Own occupied multiplexes why can keep sharp eye on.
"Why are both AB and BC Conservative governments hating on multiplexes?"

Well, this e-mail from the VP of a major real estate services & investment firm to the Premier of AB and Edmonton City Council should give some hints.

So much for "cutting red tape" being a Conservative policy when all Conservative Provincial administrations seem to want to do these days is put more red tape back up around housing.

All true, but this was precisely why the first (preliminary) zoning bylaw was adopted a century ago, and since then every zoning bylaw has continued to “prevent the intrusion of apartment houses into single or two-family residential areas”. Multiplexes were the first broad exception, even if small.
October 30, 2026 at 4:41 AM
I just watched it and the segment used 5+ photos/videos of half-built multiplexes (and no built ones) so I will not retract my statement!
October 29, 2026 at 4:56 PM
That's utter shite! I'm very lucky I have pretty good access to both multiplexes and independent cinemas where I am. Seeing at home in all its restored glory is still as good tho!!

Between a lack of interest in reform to an OAS program that subsidizes people with 6 figure incomes, and the disinterest in lowering housing prices, we are governed by a generation that is completely hostile to seeing young adults thrive in this country.
