I can’t believe I found an NEC JC-1401P3A, complete in box locally! This is the first NEC Multisync monitor, recently covered by @lgr-yt.bsky.social
It’s the perfect fit for my Sharp X68000 XVI computer and people will be able to enjoy it at this year’s LIRetro Gaming Expo! @liretro.bsky.social

I have an LCD monitor that accepts native CGA video signals, quite unusual even for NEC Multisync (this is a Dell). I need to do some further testing and also build a proper cable for it, as it's seriously useful, especially for vintage laptops that have low quality screens like this Amstrad PPC640.

Picked up an NEC Multisync 4D for $20 at the show. Broken and does not power on, I will have to figure out whats going on with it later. I am also missing the door and no good pictures or 3D models of what it is supposed to be.

Anything multisync can do anything their clock can lock onto.
Dot pitch on the other hand... You may get 1035, 1080, 1440 lines, but the beam may not focus and the mesh may be too big to give useful detail.

True Multisync, up to 135 KHz scan rate. Yes I had 1080p in 1999!
Even self-ISF-calibrated. Convergence, astig, keystone, bow, the kit and caboodle. Took hours to get 720p pixel perfect, 1080p usable.
Practically I used 1440x810. I could run 800x600 at 100 Hz, so I loved that refresh rate.

In 1993 the owner took it to a repair shop. They returned it as "can't repair".

🖥️ finally back with windows XP posting. One motherboard & sound card & CPU & fresh XP install later I've got it running! Sadly bought a cooler that doesn't fit on the mobo but using stock for now is ok!
