the fact that Apple charges an extra $20 for the black trackpad is blatant anti-goth-gf discrimination!

An iPhone with a multitouch screen that sometimes doesn’t respond
An iPod with a hard drive that doesn’t always play music
A Mac with a mouse that sometimes lies to you

we now have working flick vs drag detection, first checkpoint cleared

checkpoints of impossibility:
1. software-retrofitted flick vs drag detection ☑
2. software-retrofitted twist axis ☐
3. software-retrofitted multitouch detection ☐

The flexibility and precision that a multitouch screen provides is real hard to compete against.

Combined the multitouch plugin with the stable fluids demo.

Still testing new configurations, this one stays tenser and allows my fingertip to operate multitouch screens and to touch-type and use a mouse more effortlessly. Drawing and writing this way also feels quite natural

has anyone ever done a virtual trackball which is a fixed, low friction sphere with multitouch? or maybe better yet, the sphere is actually not fixed, and has a multitouch surface.

still far from fully functional: no sound, fan always at 100%, no bluetooth (maybe a bluez thing haven't looked much into it), touchscreen is spotty (maps to wrong display on login, multitouch doesn't work), gamepad isn't properly mapped, etc. but the basics work which is really awesome

The main paradigm shifts in human computer interaction:

- the mouse
- multitouch
- staring at your device waiting on a spinner

Jobs didn't say a single thing about capacitive multitouch in the iPhone presentation, even though it (and the rest of the smartphone sensor suite like GPS, accelerometer, camera, and mic) was what underpinned the experience.

He talked about the experience itself.

interfaces are limited… by people. our eyes, our hands, our brains.

and when they invented multitouch phones, they made the most natural interface ever possible

people with vision issues can use an ipad. people with missing fingers can use an ipad.

but not a vision pro.
something i think about often…

the iphone broke the tech industry

it broke designers

it broke the economic side

it broke pundit brains

everybody think the way the iphone worked out is normal. it’s a total outlier! it’s one of the most successful inventions ever.
the smartphone market sold 110 million units the year the iphone was introduced — and it wasn’t bc the new iphone sold 100 million units.

VR sold 6 million units last year, 30 years in, and that was the peak due to the pandemic. it’s declining again. bc it’s a failed product

i’m guessing you’re doing a lot of multitouch gestures on the left, then mousing more on the right?

Just wrapped up analog stick magnetism, so now you can play your way!

Currently supported: Mouse, Keyboard, Analog Stick, and D-Pad.

Multitouch support is coming down the line. Can’t wait to show more!

Mechanical keyboards are nice, but I'm increasingly tempted to try out this combo.

Even on linux, GNOME handles multitouch gestures really nicely.
