What she did is utterly normal for candidates in multiway races, if you drop out you wait and endorse the nominee rather than endorse someone else who might lose so your supporters get disaffected and don’t vote for the actual nominee.

Worth reading this whole thread. Fake polls like this can absolutely impact races especially multiway races where donors and volunteers and voters are trying to act strategically. (Also another point in favor of approval method and / or ranking.)
As one of the candidates featured in these polls - the infamous one in late June that showed me plummeting into single digits (which was at odds with our internals) - here's the impact of this "experiment"
