The reason they couldn't come till Thursday is that the main guy wanted to come see for himself, which I think has been worrying Mum.
On the plus side, the dehumidifier seems to have done a lot to improve the situation with the bubbly paint. It's all gone flat again, and doesn't feel damp.

Thanks Elaine. I worked through it all again in my mid-20s, and never mention it to Mum, so I feel I’m in a better position than many.
When my nieces went to uni, I gave them copies of The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker because the first half would have helped me a lot in my teens.

Years later she said she’d been trying to protect me, and I’ve never managed to make her understand that gaslighting me did more harm.

I was somewhere around that age too. Between 6 and 8 a neighbourhood older teen kept flashing at me, making obscene phone calls to the house, standing in our back garden at night, and ringing my Mum when I was at school to describe what I was wearing and say he’d taken me.
