#MumtazMahal, wife of the #MughalEmpire ruler #ShahJahanI, died in childbirth on #ThisDayInHistory in 1631. Jahan spent the next 17 years nearly bankrupting the #Mughal state to build her lavish mausoleum, the #TajMahal. He was overthrown before he could build his matching one.
