I enjoyed #BirminghamRep so much when I went to see Inspector Morse (it was fabulous), I've booked #MurderAtMidnight at the Rep.
Jason Durr stars as a one-eyed gangster with Susie Blake as his mum.

#MurderAtMidnight: 8/10
Ok in terms of pure storytelling this is nowhere near an 8/10 but this radio show has a rare quality in its production that still hits. I like that it was a non-network show that had to forge its own success.

1946-47: 50 x US Radio eps [made at WJZ New York] (✅circa 34 exist)
I think some eps also got syndicated but as ever with #OTR you don't know till you actually listen to the surviving files.

Below average ep again. In the home stretch now with this series. Some of these eps feel like they are adjusted scripts from US OTR. This might've been from a #MurderAtMidnight ep.

Do I recommend? Yes there's a lot of good stuff in this. The later eps seemed to insist upon a rational explanation being added as if this were some cut price #Suspense format. However this show was mostly never less than average and often raised its game.

That was the last radio ep but fast forward 63 years and a short story was released in 'It's That Time Again! vol.4' anthology.
It's ok but the set up at the start with the cop doesn't tie in later. It's a mostly plotless story.

Final ep.
A bit more cookie cutter this premise. Were the voices the woman hears explained properly? If they were recordings the guy rang the doctor with them still playing which is careless.

I loved this so can't quite work out why it wasn't transmitted. Though as the show is syndicated I'm unsure if that really could be known.
A game of chess comes to life across the city at night!

This is a bit highly strung ep of a man who identical twin has escaped from prison and is out for revenge. I find it a bit impenetrable in places. Stuff is happening but I couldm't work out motivations.

Story of a cursed boat which appears to be gradually killing off a family members.
I liked the commitment to giving it that rational explanation at the end. Not terribly plausible but they gave it a go.

I liked the ep but why did the lady let the garage station attendant look into her boot precisely? Wasn't the night watchman's body already dumped? So how did he get there exactly, supernatural means?

Great ep. A couple of minutes of of Act II is missing but you can work out what went down.
A man is imprisoned in a dark room.
I love how 1940s it remains as there's no morale or love conquers all shit.

Excellent.
One night at the city graveyard for unknowns located on a small island on the river the relief shift worker arrives.
They provided rational explanations for events but I didn't want/need them.

Just the first half exists. It's a pity as again it uses a different approach to familiar subject matter. Whether that culminated into a fine drama or fizzled out into vagueness who knows.

Such a queer effort. It had no dramatic energy or moving plot yet was swimming in potential. The idea of a man buried with a phone in case he revives isn't new but this ep still kept missing its mark.

A fantastic experience. It reminded me instantly of that truly bonkers ape ep of #DarkFantasy "Spawn of the Sub-Human" (27-Feb-42) yet this is very different.
I can't explain this ep but the MORLS guys can:

This teased me and I had a good time but it also went off on mad tangents that didn't connect or dovetail with earlier set ups.
The rational explanation at the end had some heavy lifting to do I'll give it that!

I loved this even though it's not trying anything new. The story about Quentin's expedition in India isn't told via a flashback but rather he just explains what happened which somehow works excellently.

Crazy sci-fi ep that's pretty good. Not sure how the prof can confirm that the radio signals get received on the moon if there's nothing there to receive it? I liked the horror aspect all the same.

Only half this ep exists.
A man with bad dreams visits a doctor who recommends hypnotherapy. The doctor has a hot wife. So there's some love triangle thing going on. But that's as far it got. Promising.

A woman dreams of being killed by the titular man. I liked the final explanation. A good try at being rationale which is quite rare in OTR.
Does she escape? Nobody escapes in this series!

Such a good ep. Pure 1940s urban angst. Love it.
A woman gets off on the 13th floor in error only to find a man on death row awaiting for his revenge. But her apartment block has no 13th floor.
