I would've been perfectly fine with Audacity remaining a goodwill project that's passively maintained but MuseGroup had to come in and add telemetry and privacy concerns and are in the process of rewriting it to be more like their other products

The current head of development for Audacity 4 just put out a video explaining this among other things in that the higher ups at MuseGroup hired an outside marketing company for the logo

I don't think the new logo is unsalvageable—I get the MuseGroup identity, and again, I like that it forms a lowercase 'a'—but it's TOO foreign to what it was. At the very least, returning to blue is a given. I also think we can work the waveform back in, as if it were the old logo shown at an angle.

If you compare it with the MuseGroup (which Audacity is now a part of) logos as a set you can see the vision. Its just executed pretty poorly

trouble is, the userbase can't code, and coding means money. As an example, all the Audacity forks either froze or rebased to upstream, while UltimateGuitar / MuseGroup keeps executing their roadmap to make it into a more complete and more mainstream solution. In FOSS, code = control.

while i could take or leave the flat design, i think it looks FANTASTIC with the wordmark and in the context of the splash screen. it's such an improvement over the original logo and i think the negativity i'm seeing is simply an aversion to change from people who've used the app for years

I suppose some sort of central authority which devs could submit their work to for certification would be too much bureaucracy? I was originally gonna suggest major FOSS players like Blender Foundation, MuseGroup, KDE, etc. open talk with each other regarding a standards alliance, but fair enough.
