Jos -- Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang had granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates as part of activities marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary. The governor also commuted the death sentences of four inmates to life imprisonment, according to a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. Mutfwang said the decision followed consultations with the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

Nigerian delegation to tour Omusati projects ahead of Olufuko Festival opening
Staff Reporter A THREE-DAY official visit by a delegation from Plateau State, Nigeria, to the Omusati Region, starting Thursday, will focus on agriculture, education, tourism and culture. The programme includes site visits to the Etunda Irrigation Scheme, Ogongo Agricultural College, Olushandja projects, Ruacana Waterfalls and the Baobab Tree Heritage Site, ahead of the official opening of the Olufuko Cultural Festival on Friday. Led by Executive Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the delegation — which includes a cultural troupe — is expected to arrive at Andimba Toivo ya Toivo Airport in Ondangwa on Thursday morning before proceeding to Outapi by road. Key engagements include: – Etunda Irrigation Scheme: Briefing on irrigated agriculture and commercial crop production, with discussions on productivity, irrigation management and food security. – Ogongo Agricultural College: Engagement with management and stakeholders, focusing on agricultural education, training, research and skills development. – Olushandja Dam: Tour of selected agricultural and rural development projects, with a briefing on irrigation and production. – Ruacana Waterfalls: Site visit centred on tourism development, conservation and destination promotion. – Baobab Tree Museum/Heritage Site, Outapi: Focus on cultural, historical and natural heritage. Additional sites may be added or removed depending on time, distance and final logistics. On Friday, Governor Mutfwang will deliver goodwill remarks at the official opening ceremony of the Olufuko Cultural Festival, where a performance by the Plateau State Cultural Troupe is expected to be one of the highlights. Later that evening, the Office of the Governor of the Omusati Region will host a welcoming dinner in honour of the Nigerian delegation. This will be followed by the issuance of a joint communique and a media briefing. The delegation will depart from Omusati for Windhoek via Ondangwa Airport on Saturday morning. From Nigeria to Outapi: Plateau State Governor and cultural troupe to grace Olufuko 2026
Staff Reporter CALEB Manasseh Mutfwang, Executive Governor of Nigeria’s Plateau State, will deliver goodwill remarks at the official opening of the Olufuko Cultural Festival, adding an international dimension to this year’s celebrations. The festival runs from Monday until 1 September in Outapi. Governor Mutfwang will be accompanied by the Plateau State Cultural Troupe, which will showcase the richness and diversity of African cultural expression. According to organisers, the Nigerian delegation will also take part in an exclusive engagement with representatives of traditional authorities, government officials, business leaders and other invited guests. The engagements aim to strengthen cultural, economic and institutional cooperation between the two regions. In addition to participating in the 2026 Olufuko Annual Cultural Festival, the delegation will visit selected agricultural and tourism sites across the Omusati Region.
