A big part of improvising is leaning into it when shit goes sideways. My good buddy Joe Bellanti from Organ Fairchild looked up from his solo and pointed at me, so I hit the mutron for a little extra sauce, not realizing that the controls had gotten moved and produced this sharp, distorted tone. 🤷♂️

A sultry Mari Sakurano by the yaoi/BL mangaka Saeko Takahara, done in 1979 for a group article on the character herself. Sakurano was more than likely just 17 or 18 when she drew this. From vol. 11 of the Raideen F.C.'s "Mutron", January 1st, 1979. Currently being scanned in!

Because then not only can everyone experience this wide variety of audio effects on a familiar piece of audio (we listened through the multitracks last time) but we can also talk about the semiotics of these effects. Why do Auto-Tune sound so wrong? Why is Mutron bass kind of plausible?
