The Zapotec people have had 3 genders from time immemorial: Man, Woman, and Muxe. The Muxe are a precolonial 3rd gender where people assigned male at birth take on female roles. Muxes in Mexico are accepted in Indigenous town like Juchitán and engage in LGBTQ+ activism with other Queer Natives

We need more teams like Muxes. Yes, there's an issue with machismo in Mexican culture, yes, I heard the homophobic grito during the WC, but there are also people out there in the Mexican soccer world who are bravely trying to change things. Muxes were part of that and I hope they inspire others

I try to not root for any clubs, but I loved Mexican lower league side CD Muxes because of their founding and support from the LGBTQ+ community.
Genuinely gutted to see them announce that they'll no longer take part in "official competitions" (aka disbanding at the professional level).
