Muxlicer DIY build - I thought I was nearly done — and then I noticed a DIP switch I know I placed is missing. I suspect and hope it’s out in the recycling bin with packaging I was done with but I’m not looking tonight.

Today on Scott’s modular journey, I finally tried the whole Rings-into-Clouds thing (or rather, Rings clone into expanded Clouds variant, Typhoon) after receiving Typhoon from the fine folks at Detroit Modular earlier today, and yeah, I think I get why it’s a (very good) cliche.

That’s a nice one! I have one myself thanks to that same sale 😃 but I haven’t put much time into learning it. Lately I’ve been using the Pigeons app in the Ornament & Crime Phazerville firmware & soon I should have a working Muxlicer.

In really happy with how this build came out; probably my best looking soldering job yet. I’m by no means anywhere near being OCD, but if I put effort into making something I’d like it to look halfway decent. I mean, I’m sure a pro could tell this wasn’t made by a pro, but I’m pleased with it.

There was a lot I was really dissatisfied with about the first build and I really wanted to start over clean. Now that I have a working unit I’ll work on getting the 1st working. If I succeed at getting it working, it’ll be useful to have a second one. If I don’t, then I that’s the cost of tuition.

Muxlicer build progress — capacitors, transistors, ICs installed. I’m disappointed by how far off the board some of the components are sitting. I tried to reseat them better but it was clear that if I continued I’d probably break the leads off of something.

I just don’t see external sequencing/control working for me. Reconnecting anything more than power, clock in, and audio out is a recipe for frustration. Nor is menu diving into O_c or Disting viable. I need a in-rack sequencer with a physical UI, which will probably be a Muxlicer.
