60 years ago tonight, the velvet underground at summit high school in new jersey, opening for the myddle class, both acts' 1st proper shows. rob norris’s classic “i was a velveteen” (from kicks #1) suggests the VU had just been fired by cafe wha?, so maybe an earlier gig? great local coverage, too!

It was rather surreal to see the remains of a ducking stool today in St Peter's Church, Myddle. Described as 'The Oldest Known remedy for evil tongues'. It was often used against 'unquiet women' and witches. They were dunked in nearby Marton Pool. This one dates from the 1660s.

To St Peter's Myddle for this week's Monday night bike ride. I must've cycled past hundreds of times without stopping but very glad I did today because this ancient place (which can be traced back to Saxon times) has a characterful churchyard and a great view of Myddle Castle! 🏰

In Shropshire, one must 'Tell The Bees' of a death in the household. In 1961, the Bee's of Sam Rogers from Myddle (totalling 14 hives) were told of his passing. They turned up at his funeral service and settled on the flowers at his grave 💚
