Stoked to present our latest, superbly led by Chris et al & @torres-sanchez.bsky.social We tackled a fundamental problem – how tissues are patterned during development – found that geometry-constrained ECM fractures pattern the myocardium in the vertebrate heart 1/n www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Pls use every chance you get to remind Christian nationalists that the Bible says life begins at the first breath, not at the moment of fertilization of an egg or when electrical activity is detectable in fetal myocardium. So if they say/do/believe otherwise then they must think the Bible is wrong!

New @science.org
A peptide released from white blood cells, directed against bacteria, can also poke holes in the membrane of heart muscle cells and induce a lethal arrhythmia (ventricular tachycardia). In the mouse model.

Resistin-like molecule γ attacks cardiomyocyte membranes and promotes ventricular tachycardia
Ventricular tachycardia disrupts the heart’s coordinated pump function, leading to sudden cardiac death. Neutrophils, which are recruited in high numbers to the ischemic myocardium, promote these arrh...

Tunneling nanotube–like structures regulate distant cellular interactions during heart formation
In the developing mammalian heart, the endocardium and the myocardium are separated by so-called cardiac jelly. Communication between the endocardium and the myocardium is essential for cardiac morpho...

Hearts have topological defects. By treating the mouse myocardium as a 3D nematic, we found disclination lines threading through it. In situs inversus hearts, twist must match structural chirality for contraction to work, as found by quantifying the nematic chirality.

LIFE HACK: create a rhythmic tendency to depolarize throughout your myocardium so that the loss of a distinct pacemaker doesn’t completely halt the cardiac cycle.

The most egregious part is when the revived person just gets up and continues the plot as if major trauma hasn't just been infliced on their ribs, intercostal muscles, and their myocardium.

Here we study the origin of the cardiac cell lineages in the mouse embryo. Separate but coordinated lineages independently specified at gastrulation generate the myocardium and endocardium. Credits: Miquel Sendra & coll: Jorge Dominguez, K. McDole and L. Guinard

I examined a native heart in a transplant patient who had previously undergone bone marrow injections into the scarred LV myocardium. By microscopy, there was hematopoiesis in the myocardial fibrosis. You are correct. Bone marrow cells are committed, and injections are voodoo medicine.
