#HappyBirthday Hans-Joachim Stuck, 74. He drove 74 #F1 GPs for March, Brabham, Shadow & ATS, but instead here’s one of my fave racing pics: Strietzel (as he’s nicknamed) abso-bloody-lutely flat-out in a BMW CSL at Planzgarten in the ’74 #Nürburgring1000km.

#HappyBirthday Chris Irwin, 84. He drove 10 #F1 GPs in ’66 & ’67, best 5th in a 16-cylinder BRM in the ’67 #FrenchGP. His career was ended at 25 by head injuries that he sustained in a practice shunt for the ’68 #Nürburgring1000km, but he recovered. Pic: in that 16-pot BRM, Nürburgring, ’67.

Tragic pic of the Ferrari 250TR that Erwin Bauer, born #OnThisDay in 1912, shared with Gotfrid Köchert in the ’58 #Nürburgring1000km. Why tragic? Well, Bauer didn’t see the chequered flag, carried on racing on what he didn’t realise should have been his slow-down lap, crashed, & was killed.

Remembering Olivier Gendebien, born #OnThisDay 101 years ago, one of the greatest sports car racers of all time. He won the #LeMans24Hours x4, #TargaFlorio x3, #Sebring12Hours x3, #Reims12Hours x2 & #Nürburgring1000km x1. He also bagged 2 #F1 podiums. Great portrait by John Ross.
