Americorps has several full time "corps" for this very purpose. Great programs.
My kid got "Doged" out of NCCC when Elon shut it down, but the courts ruled Americorps NCCC back into existence. It's a fabulous national service program that teaches many life skills.

Big emotions today and yesterday in Vicksburg MS during the final demobilization of the AmeriCorps NCCC members. A lot of people don't know anything about this program. But the people here have done so much good for Americans, and would've done more if they hadn't been so cruelly forced home.

Since Hurricane Helene hit, Americorps NCCC teams have been on the ground in western NC delivering resources to victims, repairing homes, and leading volunteer efforts. The federal government is making a mistake taking them off the job. The people of NC need them to complete their mission.

Just a correction: all NCCC AmeriCorps members. There are multiple lines of service, like state and National, NCCC, AmeriCorps Seniors. Doesn’t change the fact that others will likely be cut. But so far only one.

The abrupt termination of nearly $400 million in grants has led to the disbanding of over 1,000 programs and the displacement of approximately 32,000 volunteers nationwide. This includes the early dismissal of NCCC members who were actively engaged in disaster relief projects across the country.

I'm a NCCC alum, and of all the stupid fucking decisions DOGE and this administration has made, this is one of the biggest. This program is so small, and so cheap, and it's going to have such devastating consequences on natural disaster recovery, let alone all the other work NCCC teams do.
