The line through the Canyon is curvy, slow, and slide prone. Maybe I’m defensive about NCRy, but it’d be tough to use for transit. ACE is on a newer, better alignment, but it’s been affected by landslides from time to time. The Pleasanton BART line cost $$$, but it seems to be more reliable

Instead of having CAHSR what if I’d rather we have BART to tri valley what ifs
SP in 1984 abandoned their Niles to Tracy line and deeded it to the county. Pacific Locomotive Association would take up home and start relaying track in 1987 to form NCRY
Also being abandoned was the San Ramon branch

If we are going to take over county owned row I’d let UP deal with their own line and move all pax traffic to the other side. We could do some short tunnels and turn NCRY into mostly a double track main that’s significantly faster
I would hate to lose NCRY but the alternative is a new 2 track tunnel
