The Pope to NCYC:
“Be careful not to use political categories when speaking of faith. The Church does not belong to any political party; rather, it helps to form your conscience so that you may think and act with wisdom and love.”

There are hundreds (or low thousands? idk) of Catholic teens, chaperones, nuns, and priests all over downtown Indianapolis for a big multi-day youth NCYC event. They’re apparently doing a huge video call with the pope, and I’ve seen a bunch of huge cardboard pope heads walking around.

Time to ship some yeast around. The samples of #42 and #45 from Latvia are going to the NCYC now that I have paperwork for them. And a possible new farmhouse yeast from Telemark is going to @pflieglerlab.bsky.social to see if it really is farmhouse yeast.

Two new kveik cultures have been added to the NCYC collection, preserved for posterity. First up is #70 Straumgjerde, collected a few years ago in ... you guessed it ... Straumgjerde.

We had a successful #NCYC this weekend! Thank you to all of the youth who packed 1000 extreme weather kits for unhoused people - this is what our Catholic faith in action looks like! #EcoCatholic

I don't know that company, so can't really comment. Not sure there is a whole lot of real Rivenes around, but they may have acquired it from NCYC.

“I was totally blown away, I was so honored," said the teen about being selected to sit near the Pope during his virtual appearance.

hang on now. Without my Catholic youth group, I would have never gone to NCYC at the RCA Dome in 2001 and sat next to Corey Taylor's second (?) cousin on the bus ride there from Iowa, which, may I remind you, was the title of their album that came out that year. i don't recall what my point was here
