It’s GRFP day! My take every year: Congrats to the winners! unfortunately for most, today they received disappointment. I was rejected from GRFP/CSGF/NDSEG likely bc my GPA was awful. Here are scores for my F31, years later. 1 = best (1 to 9). If you’re good, they’ll see it eventually; keep at it.

I did an REU as an undergrad: it taught me a lot about research and solidified my decision to go to grad school and get my PhD in Applied Physics, funded not only by research grants for projects but also a 3 yr National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship (NDSEG) for me specifically.

As a former college SWE eboard member and former NDSEG fellow I am devastated to see these organizations being erased from a Military Academy right in front of our eyes.

When I was offered the NSF and DOD NDSEG fellowships (but could only pick one), I never had to factor in that the President of the United States of America would be hostile to the mission of the NSF but not to the DOD. What amazing times we live in.

The NDSEG fellowship is paid directly to the student rather than going through the university, but they send the PI a form every month to confirm that the student is in good academic standing

I have to assume that this practice happened because someone dropped out but kept getting NDSEG checks...
