I saw my first Great Blue Heron at the rookery this past weekend. The males arrive first and will claim nests. Some of them will start working on the nests before the females arrive.

Juvenile Northern Saw-Whet Owl. They breathe in dense coniferous forest of Southern Canada and northern United States and mountainous regions of central Mexico. They are cavity nests. They do not build their own nests. They live in abandoned woodpecker holes.

A Great Egret flying over the Great Blue Heron rookery. Interestingly, there was a Great Egret doing a courtship dance in one of the nests last week. When I started visiting the rookery 10 years ago there were many Great Egret nests along with the Great Blue Heron nests.

Trump saying we urgently need well stocked sniper nests overlooking the nation’s main location for political protest should ring alarm bells.
Get that it is a legal strategy for Trump to take our money & heritage in the name of the military: but building a sniper nest on the National Mall really feels like a threat to free assembly & speech, as if the only obvious use would be strike down people protesting Trump’s regime.
Just like with the ballroom, another scam by Trump to turn this into a “military complex” to prevent the courts from intervening by using “national security” as his excuse for vanity projects.

The Bushtit bird is a small, grey bird known for building a large, fluffy, hanging nests These nests are woven using spider webs and plant materials and are known for being well insulated with feathers, fur, and downy plant matter. This Bushtit bird is mainly in southwest Texas through Mexico
