i really am worried that the next admin is going to have a bunch of staffers who cooked their brain on bsky and want to eliminate transformative use on copyright law or have nhsta effectively ban self driving taxis
one area where i really diverge from people on here is that i have neutral to positive views on automation overall

Back when NHSTA SGO required ADAS crash reporting, Tesla reclassified and revised their self-reported Autopilot crash rates. The revisions don't make statistical sense, and I suspect Tesla is miscounting crashes to make Autopilot look safer.

NHSTA has proven about as useful as a swollen appendix in reducing skyrocketing pedestrian injuries and fatalities. The added weight and acceleration of these vehicles virtually guarantees catastrophic outcomes for whoever and whatever they hit.

That’s why the cybertruck, which I think is extremely dangerous and ridiculous, is sold in the US, not in Europe where it’s proactively determined unsafe according to their standards.

Roadway deaths have fallen by more than 5% since NHSTA has implemented safety provisions outlined in the IIJA. But there is more work to do. That's why Senator Richard Blumenthal and I urged NHTSA to finalize its proposed rules to maintain our progress in reducing roadway deaths.

What an absolute nightmare. A high school student saw his friends crash their Cybertruck and rushed to help, but was only able to rescue one of them because the car's doors would not open from the outside.

One was in the Navy and then was a mason (actually worked in masonry, not the secret society). The other worked for NHSTA and helped write car safety legislation.

At what point does NHSTA not step in and demand full and obvious manual door releases? The original model S has them on the front doors. Yank harder and it opens manually. If it could be done then then it could be done now. Wonder if jag ipace also has same issue?

A number of US government agencies were investigating him in recent years, including the NHSTA, the Labor Board, even USAID. When Trump took over, Musk had thise agencies cut back or shut down.

It took 40+ years for the NHSTA to approve the use of a dummy anatomically representative of the average female in terms of height, weight & body type even tho such models have existed for years. Women are MUCH more likely to be seriously injured or killed in a crash than their male counterparts.
