#NISP
i think we're stumbling towards a catastrophic rupture in the NISP tbh

NGC 1494 with ESA's Euclid @ec-euclid.bsky.social
VIS as basis and I added NISP Y+H as color. (J-band was too noisy)

NISP is entirely voluntary :)

The feds have basically infinite latitude to impose restrictions on FCLs and PCLs
Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

Data from the Euclid Early Release Observations were made available lately, so here's my go at the Horsehead Nebula observation (using the NISP instrument) by this wonderful space telescope! 🔭

To continue on the Euclid front, here are two observations that I processed using the ERO data: M78 and Barnard 30! 🔭

These two observations were made with the NISP instrument.

Barnard 30: flic.kr/p/2pTnugd

One challenge for identifying Passenger Pigeons is that birds in general are poorly represented in Minnesota zooarchaeology. The greatest representation is in the deciduous forest with 4% of the Number of Identified Specimens.

The second image released today is by the EC and @esa.int, of the 'Dark Cloud' LDN 1641 – a near-infrared colour view through thick dust by #Euclid's NISP instrument:

In medieval Europe, sedentary farming societies predominantly ate pork, whereas mobile pastoralists tended to eat horse #NationalBaconDay 🥓
Whilst horsemeat was popular in rural parts of Hungary, demographic changes largely eradicated its consumption.

Little primer on quantifying human remains, using some of my work as an example. A thread.

As a commercial bioarchaeologist I use three primary ways of quantifying remains: Number of identified specimens (NISP), Minimum number of individuals (MNI) and weight (1/5)

It's funny they are sheep to me. Imagine escaping from Eteocypriots (our ancient ancestors) only to be a shy sheep for millennia.

Cyprus emerged from the sea / was never connected to the mainland: so cool how all terrestrial mammals can be traced. NB: we domesticated cats!

The near IR spectrometer (NISP) is, apparently, not intended for bright Milky Way objects.

In 2009, following disruptions at the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor, the Government of Canada launched the Non-reactor-based Isotope Supply Contribution Program (NISP), which challenged researchers to find new ways to produce critical medical isotopes.

NISP allows us to peek through the clouds and see hot, young stars at the beginning of their stellar lives. 🌟

Here we zoom into the star HOPS 221, which can be seen spewing out lots of material!
