NIWater is owned by the NI Executive. 40% of Belfast water comes from Loch Neagh. (Itself owned privately) Polluted by run off from local farming. Overall NIWater needs £1.5B in investment.

The problem isn’t ownership per se, it’s investment.

Yeah. NIwater. Not exactly a bastion of managerial efficiency but better than the alternative

The last time a reservoir was built in NI was 1960. Since then the population has increased by a third. Loch Neagh is polluted and is responsible for 40% of Belfast drinking water.

NIWater is run by Stormont.

It explains a great deal.

Agreed. You are paying a fortune for it.

A report here says that if water charges are brought here at an average of £65 a person it would enable borrowing the fix NIWater investment. Unlocking £12B in other investments in the province.

Elections next year. So it won’t happen!
