After East Brunswick tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh on a passed ball with the bases loaded, Woodbridge left fielder Michael Gurovich worked out a five pitch walk - also with the bases loaded - to give the Barrons a walk-off win over the Bears in the opener of their two-game set Tuesday in GMC Red Division play. The Piscataway Magnet baseball team claimed its first outright division title this century Monday night - the last one came in 1996 - topping South Amboy 8-2 at home to move to 14-0 on the season, 13-0 in the GMC Gold Division. This reporter had not yet graduated high school yet. If the Raiders can finish running the table, they would be the third Gold or Silver Division team (sort of) to do so in the last six seasons.

While the Bellamy & Son Paving Top Ten went just 14-13 in the past week, leading to additional volatility in the rankings, Immaculata remains at No. 1 for a fourth straight week, a position it's held this year for all but the preseason list. It was also a bit of a light week, with many games rained out on Saturday.

With only one Central Jersey Sports Radio-area team on the baseball schedule this Sunday, a rainy one at that, it's time to take our first look at the power point standings in New Jersey, with the cutoff date of May 17 exactly three weeks away. And there are two publics and two non-publics who are on the right track for top seeds in their respective sections.

The Somerset County Tournament seeding meeting will be held on Tuesday, May, 5. And while the top two seeds appear to be set, where will everyone else go? To begin with, Immaculata should easily be the top seed. They haven't lost to a Somerset County school yet, and have one more before the seeding meeting, a Tuesday date at Watchung Hills.

The Piscataway Magnet baseball team won ten games in 2014. The Raiders finished 10-15 and had a six-game losing streak and a seven-game losing streak during the year, but in terms of victories, it was their best season ever. They won ten again in 2023, going 10-6 under Jake Rosenberg, but he left for North Brunswick the following season. Fast forward to 2026, and the Raiders have set a new program best for wins just four weeks into the 2026 season.

The GMC Red Division so far this season has been Edison leading the pack, and everyone else beating everyone else. But on Thursday afternoon, Woodbridge brought the Eagles right into the scrum. The Barrons pounded out 15 hits over five innings - while senior Michael Gurovich threw a no-hitter - in a 14-0 shutout win over Edison in GMC Red Division play, and the opener of their two-game regular season series.

Senior Ryan Auten pitched his second complete game of the year, striking out 13 and allowing just two hits, in a 6-0 win for top-ranked Immaculata over No. 2 Ridge, completing a sweep of their two-game regular season series. Wake Forest-bound Ryan Auten threw his second complete game of the year, and No. 1 Immaculata picked up a 3-0 home win over No. 2 Ridge Wednesday at Diamond Nation in Flemington, sweeping the season series, and all but securing the top-seed in the Somerset County Tournament. Auten was throwing fire, as he always does, right from the first pitch of the ball game.

It's rare a home-and-home series in high school baseball will be played back-to-back, but that's probably the way Ridge would prefer it. After the No. 2 Red Devils were blanked 3-0 Tuesday by No. 1 Immaculata in Basking Ridge - on an outstanding pitching performance by the Spartans' Cole Raymond - Ridge will get right back to business on Wednesday when the two teams meet on the turf at Diamond Nation in Flemington.

Put this one under the category of the old adage "Nobody cares how, just if." The South Plainfield baseball team didn't have the best day in the field, committing four errors, one of them leading to a run, but the Tigers still won their GMC Red Division matchup against Old Bridge Tuesday afternoon at home, 4-1 - and they did it in style.

Senior Bennie Sokowlowski scattered three hits over seven innings, striking out 11, while fellow senior Vic Ceda hit a sol home run in the sixth to give North Plainfield a 2-0 win over South River, earning a split of their two-game, home-and-home, GMC Blue Division series. The only run Bennie Sokolowski needed in support from his teammates in maroon pinstripes on a sunny-but-chilly, windy Monday afternoon at Krausche Field came in the first inning. Give him a run - a single, solitary run - and he'll take it from there. The North Plainfield senior threw his third complete game of the young season, striking out eleven while allowing just two hits, in a 2-0 win over visiting South River, in a GMC Blue Division game heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio.

For a second straight week, the top four teams continued to win - leaving Immaculata, Ridge, Middlesex and Edison right where they've been - but everyone else keeps beating each other up, and two new teams join the Bellamy & Son Paving Top Ten for Week Three. Immaculata (7-2) remains in the No. 1 position after a 2-1 week. In Skyland Conference play, the Spartans swept Bridgewater-Raritan - 13-3 at home, and 5-2 on the road - Tuesday and Thursday, before falling 7-3 to Delsea in a non-conference game on Saturday.

Back on Friday, South River welcomed North Plainfield in to town for a GMC Blue Division matchup and sent the Canucks home with a 16-0 victory. But even with that win, the Rams' fifth straight, head coach Mike Lepore, Jr., hasn't won over 300 games in his career by having his teams sit back and relax. He knows that when his team visits Krausche Field Monday night for a 6 pm game under the lights to wrap-up the two-game series, they won't go into it with a 16-0 lead.

Erich Schikschneit won his first start of the season - while Matt Chin and Adrian Lutomski knocked in three runs each - to power Old Bridge over No. 7 South Plainfield, 9-3, in Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division action. Matt Chin and Adrian Lutomski each knocked in three runs and Erich Schikschneit pitched 4 2/3 solid innings in his first start of the season Thursday, as Old Bridge got past South Plainfield, 9-3, in a GMC Red Division game at Fred Cole Field heard on Central Jersey Sports Radio. It was that mix of the big hit in the right spot - including a four-run fourth where the Knights batted around - and pitching out of jams that gave the Knights the win, moving them just ahead of South Plainfield in the division with three weeks to go before the GMC Tournament seeding meeting on May 8th.

With the exception of Edison - which is playing some excellent baseball right now - the entire Red Division in the Greater Middlesex Conference has been beating itself up. After the first-place Eagles at 7-1, the next five games are no more than one or two games over or under .500 as we near the end of Week Three of the season.

There was a lot of change in the South Brunswick baseball program in the off-season, and it wasn't just the coaching staff. Veteran GMC skipper Lou Urbano had to change the culture. Which is all fine and good in the fall and winter, but what actually happens on the field can sometimes be a different story. Well, the Vikings got off on the right foot, sweeping Perth Amboy in their season-opening GMC White Division series, with 13-2 and 8-6 wins.

Monmouth-bound senior Connor Murphy threw a no-hitter, striking out 13, in a 4-0 win over St. Joseph-Metuchen in GMC Red Division action. It came seven years to the day after he tossed a no-no in the Fords Clara Barton Baseball League as a ten-year-old, a game in which he also struck out 13. The last time Connor Muprhy threw a pitch against St. Joseph-Metuchen, J.P. Zayle sent it over the left field fence for a grand slam to walk off with the GMC Tournament Championship. On Tuesday, he got some measure of revenge, with a complete-game, 13-strikeout no-hitter, in a 4-0 win for his 4th-ranked Eagles over the Falcons. In a game heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio, Murphy was simply masterful, mixing his fastball, change and breaking ball to keep St.

It's great when you start any season 5-0, but how you rebound after that first loss - whenever it happens - may say more about your team than your first five wins combined. That will be the mindset for the Edison baseball team Tuesday afternoon - who took their first loss of the season, 2-0, at Monroe Saturday - when the fourth-ranked Eagles entertain St.

There was much more stability in the Bellamy & Son Paving Top Ten for Week 2 of the high school baseball season, with the top four teams remaining right where they are. There was minimal movement below that, with Monroe rising and Watchung Hills joining the rankings after a 3-0 week, knocking out Bernards. Immaculata (5-1) holds at No. 1 after 1 2-1 week down in Florida playing teams from around the country.

Montgomery rallied three times - the last time coming in the bottom of the seventh inning - to beat Pingry in a Skyland Conference crossover game, 11-10, with a two-out, bases loaded, walk-off infield hit by senior Evan Puleio. One thing about baseball: the bats could be alive one day and completely dormant the next. The Montgomery bats had mostly been dormant this season, with the Cougars hitting just .182 coming into Saturday afternoon's Skyland Conference crossover game at TD Bank Park in Bridgewater, heard live on Central Jersey Sports Radio. But Saturday, everything clicked, even if it took them a while to get going.
