As of July 3rd, 2026, UWCHR researchers have confirmed 50 cases in which Washingtonians were arrested by ICE/CBP after those agencies queried data in WA’s DOL database.

Your state's names for NLETS lookups might vary but the principle is the same: Ask for any metadata about NLETS searches on your members' names. FBI Case numbers and agent surnames can leak via this THIRD PARTY DATA back to you, the requester of public records.

It’s perfectly possible to cut off ICE from any state system and in so doing you would block them from query run via NLETS. I can lay out design and mechanics if you want. Several states have done it. I helped one of them do it. Yes they could still get a friendly agency to run query for them.

Even in WA where we have a law to prevent this, the NLETS system is used for at LEAST several dozen persons a year. That we know of from metadata from those systems.

-They run license plates thru Nlets to get WA drivers license and registration data
-Now they have full name, address, and license photo. Very helpful info for fed databse searches, stalking, arrests
