No, they just fast tracked the NOFO. Applications still have to come in, go through peer review, and then programmatic review before award.

That process should hopefully keep this to good science, if its integrity is upheld.

Dear Director Bhattacharya and Deputy Director Lorsch: I noticed that the NOFO Mechanistic Toxicology of METALS: Metal Exposure, Transport, Action, Localization, and Susceptibility (RP1 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) is on the Grants.gov forecasted site. https://simpler.grants.gov/opportunity/2b9da5ac-c1a1-4a64-ac18-4c707c6925ed The estimated post date is December 4th, 2026 with an estimated application due date of January 5th, 2027. I know that you have expressed concerns about reduced trust in NIH and in high administrative burden. Having a new NOFO with relatively little public background or process with a 1-month period for application preparation over the holiday season is not an even remotely reasonable way to solicit the best scientific projects, puts a substantial burden on investigators and offices of sponsored research, and reeks of a setup for funding a targeted set of investigators who may be receiving inside knowledge about this initiative.
