I've read through an appnote from NXP about QFN solder pads - and it turns out, there are two different kinds of solder pad lands: SMD (Solder Mask Defined) and NSMD (Non-SOlder Mask Defined). The NSMD is preferred, as you can see in this screenshot:

Unfortunately due to PCBWay's 0.22mm minimum tolerance for solder mask bridges, the NSMD style is not possible with bridges of solder mask between pads. So, I've had to cut out a whole section of solder mask for the PCBWay files.
JLC's tolerance is 0.13mm worst case, so the left style is achievable
