RESTORE THE NSF, NEH and NIH
Things the Dem Congress should do on day 1:

- restore USAID
- investigate DOGE
- pass guardrails against civilian data misuse
- revoke the AUMF
- revoke unilateral Presidential tariff authority
- public hearings investigating ICE

And NSF!

Taco trucks on every corner for real and give us back our NSF grants.

Last month, NSF extended its unbroken streak of Nobel laureates in economics who received agency funding to an astonishing 30 years.

But in FY26, the agency eliminated new grants in economics—and many other social sciences. Mike Woodford, one of the new laureates, says NSF is 'playing with fire'.

Make NSF great again.
I want the NEH back. And IMLS.

The US National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Geosciences recently cut its funding by 80%. This is the part of the NSF that funds all atmospheric, ocean, Earth, and climate sciences. 😱😱😱

USAID is probably broken beyond reasonable repair in one cycle, but the people impacted by NSF NIH etc fuckery are still around and turning back on the illegally stopped money faucet can’t undo the past but it can stop the bleeding

And for the fucking record:

I WANT MY NIH AND NSF GRANTS BACK!

Girls and women deserve access to science.

Small stars, striking company.

This view from NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory captures Messier 21, a young open star cluster packed with small, dim stars near the Trifid Nebula.

Let's get some science funding next year. Can this Congress double the NSF budget?
November 4, 2026 at 3:02 AM
I keep thinking about this. They weren’t (mostly) voting about the damage to record keeping or the census, or to NSF funding or NIH grants, any of which are catastrophes. And yet they were still furious.

I added restoring NSF funding, btw

Last month the NSF talked up the number of Nobel-winning economists the agency had funded. This year, though, it awarded exactly zero economics grants. @dangaristo.bsky.social reports for @nature.com on the gutting of NSF's social sciences research:

The SBE directorate is the Schrodinger's cat of NSF. It both exists and does not exist

'NSF said that White House budget request for fiscal year 2027 “does not include continued funding for the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences Directorate” and said the directorate has not been shut down."
November 3, 2026 at 10:51 PM
What now? Tomorrow the presidents & chancellors of the 187 R1 research universities should be standing together on the Capitol steps, denouncing the frontal assault on universities, calling for full restoration of NSF/NIH/Title VI/FLAS funding & an end to all the rest of the authoritarian nonsense.
Remember when a huge portion of civil society including corporate leaders, top law firms, and elite universities decided to submit to Trump's authoritarianism? And it was legitimized because he won in 2024 with <checks notes> 49.7% of the popular vote? What now?

I want everyone in NSF leadership to testify as to what went on in FY2026. Day 1.

Tell the nation: The president should get his hands off NSF.
