👏🔬✨ Hands-on laboratory training, discussions about personal genetics and genomics, and conversations with researchers gave high school students a firsthand look at biomedical research careers during the inaugural JAX-NYSCF Collaborative Summer Immersive.

A few highlights ⤵️
August 21, 2026 at 1:26 PM
The summer culminated with a research symposium where #JAXSSP26 participants showcased their scientific growth, confidence as emerging researchers and ability to effectively communicate their findings.

We’re proud of all they accomplished this summer. Join us in celebrating their achievements! 👏

🙌 🌟 #JAXSSP26 participants recently wrapped up an incredible summer of scientific discovery at @jax.org.

Over 10 weeks, Summer Student Program participants immersed themselves in hands-on research, developed new scientific skills, explored research questions and gained collaborative experience.

Experiential learning doesn't have a single format.

This summer, undergrads explored #Genomics & #BiomedicalResearch in many ways: discussing cancer genomics virtually, contributing to stem cell research in the JAX-NYSCF Collaborative Summer Internship & in labs in the JAX Summer Student Program.

Type 2 diabetes (or T2D) affects more than 500 million people worldwide. Yet scientists still struggle to explain why the disease develops differently from one person to the next. Our scientists are working to change that. 🧬 🧪
To advance type 2 diabetes research, JAX-NYSCF scientists are making pancreatic organoids at scale
By automating one of biology's most labor-intensive processes, a robotic platform is helping scientists grow and study organoids for diabetes and other complex diseases at unprecedented scale.
