For contrast, this article indicates NZ’s science budget – for the whole country – is about $323 million. Those helicopters would be about 8 years of science funding.

Kiwis think their lockdowns were harsh when it allowed you COVID FREE LIFE when I literally didn’t go to the hospital even when my GP told me to cause the hospitals were FULL and no one had PPE. I’m just glad whatever was wrong with me didn’t get worse and got better. You know even know.

It's interesting looking at the Oxford Government Covid Response Tracker data set now. Out of the OECD, New Zealand had the 3rd lowest stringency index averaged over 2020-2022 behind Estonia and Iceland. Roughly speaking this a measure of the intensity of public health restrictions over that period.
