#Naipaul
back with the Commonwealth scandal I compared Naipaul and the winner side by side, and you can see how detailed, and concrete Naipaul is in contrast

(since it's a story about housing and land in Trinidad, it lends itself unfortunately well to comparison to a great piece of writing. Compare the precision of Naipaulian description with this.)

“We are never finished with grief. It is part of the fabric of living,” V. S. Naipaul writes, in a Personal History. “Love makes memories and life precious; the grief that comes to us is proportionate to that love and is inescapable.”
The Strangeness of Grief
V. S. Naipaul reckons with the different forms of loss.

Thankfully V.S. Naipaul would never correspond with Epstein, not because of the pedophilia but because of the spelling.
"What if one of YOUR favorite politicians/celebrities/etc is on the list?" Did you all not notice how quickly we dropped Neil Gaiman when we found out about the things he did? Do you know how beloved that guy used to be and how loathed he is now? I think that right there should answer your question.

V.S. Naipaul was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century and I would be entirely unsurprised if it was ever revealed he was a serial killer.

V.S. Naipaul probably has the highest genius/reactionary quotient of the 20th century. And to make him more appealing to modern conservatives, he was also quite racist.
I've been thinking about this question of where the good conservative art is lately, so in an attempt to give a fair shake to the most reactionary modern writer I could think of who's supposed to be actually good, I've been reading Yukio Mishima
The problem is that “I am often scared and angry about social change” does not inherently lend itself to interesting art. You can be as technically skilled as the greats, but art with nothing interesting to say is just a commodity.

I just ran three different Fable generated short sections in different styles (Hemingway, Naipaul, Asimov) through it and it caught every one.

yet again it's a good week to be a V.S. Naipaul fan because there's literally no news about him being awful that would be shocking
