Namahage Sedo Festival is a winter event in Oga City (Akita), held Feb 13–15 at Shinzan Shrine. The festival features Namahage figures arriving from the mountains with torches, traditional dances, music, and rituals blending local custom and Shinto practice.

Each winter in parts of Northern Japan, the demons descend: Namahage are oni dressed in winter coats of straw, bringing drums and looking for naughty or whiny children to terrorize. Centuries ago, they were more akin to kami. #FolkyFriday

along with bad kids, the namahage is said to go after lazy new brides–this one in particular seems to be punishing his own spouse for sleeping in on their honeymoon. now merc's in the kinda heat that cool drinks can't fix
