nanocrystals for efficient single-component white electroluminescence
Perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) hold notable promise for next-generation full-colour displays. However, realizing full-colour active-matrix displays remains a critical challenge due to varying efficiency across the red, green and blue primary colours and incompatibility with high-resolution patterning techniques. In this context, white PeLEDs paired with colour filters may offer a simplified and efficient alternative to full-colour displays. Here we demonstrate ligand-engineered CsEuI3 nanocrystals (NCs) that enable efficient single-component white electroluminescence (EL) for full-colour displays. In CsEuI3@mCP (mCP: 1,3-bis(N-carbazolyl)benzene) NCs, the intrinsic CsEuI3 inorganic field preserves blue emission from Eu2+, while surface ligand interactions modify the local Eu2+ environment and introduce complementary long-wavelength emission, producing white emission with a high colour rendering index of 85.7 and near-ideal CIE chromaticity of (0.33, 0.34). Beyond spectral modulation, mCP also promotes the electrical activation of Eu2+ emissive centres and ligand-assisted excitation involving singlet- and triplet-related states. When implementing CsEuI3@mCP NCs as the emitter, we showcase single-component white EL with a peak external quantum efficiency of 8.3% and a maximum luminance of 8,941 cd m−2. As a proof of concept, we monolithically integrate these white PeLEDs on a 256 × 256 active-matrix display chip, demonstrating dynamic video and full-colour images with a 124% NTSC colour...

This "magic trick" is a type of 'dichroism', meaning "two-color".

If light is behind the viewer, you see REFLECTED light scattered by the nanocrystals, looking jade-green.

If light is inside the cup or TRANSMITTED through the glass, the blue/green wavelengths are ABSORBED, leaving only red light.

Rotation of the N-terminal helix triggers Gα activation
To investigate the dynamic behavior of αN during Gα activation upon GPCR binding, we used diffracted X-ray tracking (DXT) analysis33,34. GDP-bound Gs heterotrimer was immobilized on the chamber surface via a His-tag on the Gγ subunit (Methods). Surface-exposed endogenous cysteine and methionine residues were labeled with gold nanocrystals through covalent Au–S bond formation with cysteine thiol groups and weak adsorption to methionine residues, respectively35,36. Because Met1HN.01 (superscripts denote Common Gα Numbering6) and Cys3HN.09 in αN are highly exposed on the protein surface (Extended Data Fig. 2a), they were expected to serve as the primary labeling sites for gold nanocrystals. Purified β3-adrenergic receptor (β3AR) in detergent micelles was then added to the chamber, which was mounted on an X-ray irradiation stage. The X-ray beam was monochromatized to a wavelength of 0.11 nm and irradiated the sample at 100 µs exposure per frame to record diffraction spots. Angular displacement of the gold nanocrystals was quantified by analyzing the movement of diffraction spots (Fig. 1a,b). Displacement data were decomposed into θ and χ directional components, where the θ component represents rotational motion within the plane of the substrate surface, and the χ component reflects rotational motion about an axis perpendicular to the substrate37...
