Important ppl fall into Vathion's orbit by accident. He was taught by a Serfocile Linguist, who is essentially royalty to their species. He is friends with/adopted by Wolfadon clan leaders, friends with Wilsaer (who all think they're Important whether they are or not)

"Wonderful." Vathion surged forward and bounded atop the box. With a broad grin and hands on his hips, he looked over the crowd. "Now I can see you all! Lots of pretty ladies today!" He winked. Several girls swooned, and a chant started, "Say it! Say it!" Zandre and Logos took their places, ready to salute and click their heels on his mark, but Vathion was not done playing with his fans yet. "What's my name first?" At least he could insist on this, a small rebellion against his father in sort of a convoluted way, anyway. The girls screamed, "Ha'Vathion!" 'Suck scum, Dad.' But the thought came with a pang of pain. That was something he would have shared with Jathas. All of this would have been better with Jatahs. The suddenness of the realization almost made him falter. Despite the gnawing ache in his heart, Vathion grinned harder at his audience. Gripping his baton, he swept it from the loop on his belt. "Onward, mates! For the Empire—and all you lovely ladies!" He winked saucily. The crowd of women, including Fillia, screamed and bounced excitedly. Slipping his baton back into the loop on his belt, Vathion dropped down between Logos and Zandre, still grinning. "Ham," Logos leaned close to tease. Vathion turned a smirk on Logos. "Sure." It was not worth arguing about, especially not in public. "Gonna have to meet with some people along the way," he added, lowering his voice. He was given a roll of eyes and gusty sigh. His guards knew that meant he was about to make their lives difficult. However, it had to be done.

"They got to keep what they killed," Vathion said cheerfully. Hosha's plastic smile was having a hard time bouncing back up. "They were willing to trade assistance on a promise like that?" "Oh yes," Vathion said and picked up his fork to cut a piece of the cake. He took the tiny bite he had made. "Though I'm sure you didn't come all this way in the rain just to talk about aliens." "Isn't it rude to leave him out of the conversation?" Tulia asked. "It seems hardly polite to talk Gilon politics..." "Oh he's really quite fascinated and doesn't mind at all. He's the youngest prince of their royal line and was excited to get the chance to get away from his brothers." Scheerahis dropped his fork. It clattered to the floor. The serving lady was there before Scheerahis could do more than look down at it. She placed a new fork on the table. Scheerahis stared at the fork, then at the woman as she retreated. He looked at Vathion. "What lies are you telling them? They are very disturbed." "Oh nothing much," Vathion said cheerfully. "Just keep doing what you're doing." "You're using me," Scheerahis realized and set his fork down. "Absolutely."
