Copper Mill, Walthamstow in late 19th cent. The earlier water mill produced linseed oil in 18th cent. Rebuilt in 1806, the mill was sold to British Copper Co in 1808 & used to roll copper for coinage tokens. It became a pumping station after 1860 sale to East London Waterworks. #NationalMillsWeekend

Walthamstow windmill was a post mill built by John Hawkes of Whitechapel, c.1676. It was demolished in early 1800s. It was on Tile Kiln Hill, the site now occupied by Oak Hill Gardens, Woodford Green. 📷 Late 18th century print; section from Chapman & André's map of Essex 1777. #NationalMillsWeekend

National Mills Weekend is this weekend (10th and 11th May). Burwell's last surviving windmill, Stevens' Mill, will be open for free tours of the inside.
