What was this Houthi business all about? Doesn't the EU already have a Navfor there to safeguard shipping?
It's not even that. It's the fact that the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian was an offensive mission, which most EU states disagreed with. Instead, they're running EU NAVFOR Operation Aspides which is defensive in nature and counters Houthi attacks on merchant ships in the region.
It might not seem like the major issue, but the historical illiteracy of an American administration complaining that freeloading Europeans haven't done enough to militarily control the Suez Canal is quite the thing, eh?
