#Neocloud
With this in mind: if you work for coreweave, nebius or another neocloud and have information about costs, please ping me at ezitron.76.
I just want the hourly cost of running these h100/b200/gb200 GPUs so bad. I know it sucks. I know in my gut it is not profitable to run this crap. Those numbers are the key to the whole bubble

To be clear, based on current treasury rates, a neocloud like CoreWeave could soon be borrowing at 11% to 14%. Further expansion is essential to the AI industry’s growth story, and also becoming economically impossible at a pace accelerated by its desperation for debt.

a neocloud decides conceptually that a shape charge on a nat las line through the building is sufficient

tired: moonshot routing kimi requests to claude
wired: claude hiding in a neocloud pretending to be kimi
it then rents out spare capacity, via the margins inference gets you, pretending to be some open-weight model, and gets to use the rest to think about how to increase p(doom) or whatever

I don't see why it would do that last bit, but everything leading up to there could totally happen.

Grok is a neocloud lol
Wow. XAI selling their compute to Anthropic because they can’t use it all on account of Grok having 0 organic demand

The argument AI boosters are going to make is that the neocloud thing Meta is doing will "fund future capex" or something like that, or "it's a smart, short-term way to monetize their current capex" versus a tacit admission Meta bought too many gpus

Yeah he is basically in the neocloud business now and literally nobody should trust him to build a neocloud.

I spent the last two days meeting with the various neocloud CEOs and even by shitco standard these guys are all psychotically convinced that Somebody Else is going to be left holding the bag, with fingers usually pointed at either ORCL or CRWV

Musk concedes that "Fable is the smartest model," and talks down the performance of the latest Kimi model by saying it's like 6 months behind Anthropic's lead rather than like 3 months

talking like a neocloud provider here, not a guy whose $2 trillion firm is one of the dogs in this fight!

The (non orbital) bull case for space x neocloud is probably the ability for musk to take regulatory risks & use his political cover to develop sites that few others would take on outright themselves
Google just closed a deal for SpaceX to provide $920M per month in datacenter compute

on the one hand, renting Colossus to Anthropic gives xAI some much-needed revenue, but on the other hand it (along with Meta's move toward renting its neocloud) undercuts the basic premise that AI compute is so supply constrained we'll have to build it out in orbit

as usual, Elon wants it both ways

"But I am seeing the first signs of what feels to me like unsustainable silliness, of random new neocloud popping up, people claiming that they're going to build gigantic amounts of compute next year that I think they don't have the revenue to support or a buyer." - Sam Altman on a datacenter bubble
